SANTA ROSA — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday evening on Hopper Avenue, according to Santa Rosa police. The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. in the 1100 block of Hopper Avenue when the pedestrian, who was crossing outside of a designated crosswalk, was hit by a maroon Chevrolet SUV traveling eastbound.
Investigators revealed that the pedestrian, wearing dark clothing, was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision. Despite the efforts to revive the victim, they were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Chevrolet SUV remained at the scene, calling 911 and cooperating with police. Authorities do not suspect impairment or speed to have played a role in the tragic event. The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
While officers were responding to the fatal accident, two individuals were arrested nearby on suspicion of driving under the influence. One of the arrests occurred after a vehicle collided with a patrol car on Hopper Avenue.
