FREMONT, Calif. — A man was hospitalized Monday night following a shooting in Fremont that police are describing as a targeted incident.
Officers with the Fremont Police Department responded to reports of gunfire around 10:13 p.m. on April 7 in the area of Central Avenue and Joseph Street. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Personnel from the Fremont Fire Department provided immediate medical assistance at the scene before the victim was transported to a nearby hospital. As of Tuesday, the man was reported to be in stable condition, authorities said.
According to police, preliminary investigation indicates that a suspect vehicle approached the victim, fired multiple rounds, and fled the area heading north on Thornton Avenue before entering Interstate Highway 880.
“This appears to be a targeted incident,” said Sgt. Kim MacDonald, a spokesperson for the Fremont Police Department. “We want to assure the community that we are actively investigating and following up on all leads.”
Police have not released a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved in the shooting.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.
