Calistoga, CA – Students and faculty at Calistoga High School returned to their normal schedules Tuesday morning after a gas leak on campus led to a temporary shelter-in-place order.
The leak, located on the school’s campus on Lake Street, was quickly identified by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) personnel, who responded to the scene. By 10:15 a.m., PG&E had successfully located and terminated the gas leak, alleviating immediate concerns.
In the meantime, Calistoga police and fire departments were on-site, providing support and ensuring the safety of the community. Authorities worked swiftly to evacuate nearby residents from Grant Street, relocating them to the community center for safety. Residents were urged to avoid Grant Street between Lake Street and Arch Way during the emergency response.
As a precaution, students at Calistoga High were instructed to shelter in place in the gymnasium until the situation was deemed safe. The campus received an “all-clear” shortly thereafter, allowing students and staff to resume their normal activities.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the leak remains under investigation. The swift response from PG&E, along with the collaboration of local emergency personnel, helped mitigate potential risks and ensure the safety of the school and surrounding community.
Authorities thanked the public for their cooperation and continued to monitor the area for any further concerns.
