NAPA, CA — Fabio Rodriguez has been officially named the next chief of police for the city of Napa, city officials announced Friday.

Rodriguez, who has been serving as acting chief since the retirement of former Chief Jennifer Gonzales in April, brings extensive law enforcement experience and a strong commitment to community policing.

“Chief Rodriguez has demonstrated strong, steady leadership during his time as Captain and as Acting Chief,” said City Manager Steve Potter in a news release. “He brings a deep commitment to community engagement, public safety innovation, and team development. We are confident in his vision for the future of community policing in Napa.”

Rodriguez joined the Napa Police Department in 2022 as a captain after a distinguished 24-year career with the Vallejo Police Department. During his tenure in Vallejo, he worked on FBI and DEA task forces and played a key role in bringing the anti-human trafficking program ReportJohn.com to the city. Additionally, Rodriguez is fluent in Spanish, enhancing his ability to connect with Napa’s diverse population.

In his statement following the appointment, Rodriguez expressed his enthusiasm and sense of responsibility in leading Napa’s police force.

“Serving as Chief of Police in a city as vibrant and diverse as Napa is both an honor and a responsibility I take very seriously,” Rodriguez said. “I look forward to continuing to work alongside our dedicated officers and community partners to enhance safety, trust, and transparency across all neighborhoods.”

Rodriguez’s appointment marks a new chapter for the Napa Police Department as it continues efforts to build stronger relationships within the community and promote innovative public safety strategies.
