NAPA, CA — Fabio Rodriguez has been officially named the new chief of police for the city of Napa, following several months serving as acting chief since April.
Rodriguez stepped into the role after the retirement of former Chief Jennifer Gonzales and was formally selected by city officials on Friday. City Manager Steve Potter praised Rodriguez’s leadership, highlighting his commitment to community engagement, innovation in public safety, and team development.
“Chief Rodriguez has demonstrated strong, steady leadership during his time as Captain and as Acting Chief,” Potter said in a statement. “He brings a deep commitment to community engagement, public safety innovation, and team development. We are confident in his vision for the future of community policing in Napa.”
Rodriguez joined the Napa Police Department in 2022 as a captain, bringing with him 24 years of experience from the Vallejo Police Department. During his tenure in Vallejo, he participated in FBI and DEA task forces and spearheaded the launch of ReportJohn.com, an anti-human trafficking initiative.
Fluent in Spanish, Rodriguez emphasized the importance of serving Napa’s diverse community with transparency and trust. In a news release, he said, “Serving as Chief of Police in a city as vibrant and diverse as Napa is both an honor and a responsibility I take very seriously. I look forward to continue to work alongside our dedicated officers and community partners to enhance safety, trust, and transparency across all neighborhoods.”
Rodriguez’s appointment marks a new chapter for the Napa Police Department as it continues efforts to strengthen community policing and public safety.
