SANTA ROSA, CA — A tragic accident occurred earlier today at approximately 12:35 PM on private property at 3100 Skillman Lane, resulting in the death of a 3-year-old child.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Santa Rosa, the incident took place when a Bobcat tractor was being operated in a field. Preliminary investigations revealed that the child ran into the area and was struck by the moving tractor. Emergency responders arrived on the scene, but the child was pronounced deceased at the site.
The tractor operator, whose identity has not been released, was observed showing signs of intoxication. Authorities arrested the individual on charges of Felony DUI and Manslaughter. The operator will be booked into the Sonoma County Jail as part of the ongoing investigation.
“While the investigation is still in its early stages, the loss of a young life is a devastating tragedy,” said a CHP spokesperson. “We urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.”
