NAPA, CA — Residents of Napa Valley will soon be saying goodbye to their local Kohl’s department store, as the retailer confirms that the store at 1116 1st St. in the Napa Town Center will close its doors for the final time on Saturday, March 29. Shoppers have one last chance to visit the store this Friday and Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The closure of the Napa location is part of a broader strategy by Kohl’s to shutter underperforming stores across the country. In January, the retail giant announced the closure of 26 stores nationwide, including 10 in California. Along with Napa, other Bay Area cities losing their Kohl’s stores include Fremont, Mountain View, Pleasanton, and San Rafael.

Kohl’s cited sluggish sales as the primary reason for the closures, stating that the affected stores had been underperforming in recent months. The decision to close the Napa store, along with its counterparts, will impact more than 900 employees across California. However, Kohl’s has assured workers that they were offered a competitive severance package or the opportunity to apply for other open roles within the company.

Despite the closures, Kohl’s stores in nearby North Bay cities such as Vallejo, Vacaville, Santa Rosa, and Petaluma will remain open for the time being. It remains to be seen whether the closing of several local Kohl’s locations will impact shopping patterns in the region, with some speculating that other retailers may benefit from an influx of shoppers seeking similar merchandise.

The Napa closure marks the end of an era for many local shoppers who relied on the store for everything from clothing to home goods. As the retail landscape continues to evolve, both businesses and consumers in the Napa Valley will adapt to the shifting dynamics of the marketplace.
