Napa, CA – In recent weeks, several product recalls have emerged that affect a broad range of consumers across the U.S. These recalls involve household appliances, food products, and deli meats, prompting urgent action from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and other regulatory bodies. Here’s a breakdown of the most significant recalls:
1. SharkNinja Pressure Cookers Pose Serious Burn Risk
SharkNinja is recalling nearly 2 million Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers following reports of over 100 burn injuries, including 50 cases of second- and third-degree burns. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the lid on the pressure cookers can be opened during use, allowing hot contents to spill out and cause severe burns to users.
The company received 109 reports of burn injuries, some of which were sustained on the face and body. The affected products were sold nationwide between March 2019 and March 2025 at major retailers, including Walmart, Costco, Amazon, and Target, as well as SharkNinja’s own e-commerce site.
Consumers who purchased the recalled pressure cookers are advised to immediately stop using the pressure-cooking function and contact SharkNinja for a free replacement lid. The other functions of the appliance, such as air frying, are still safe to use. The recall applies to models sold for around $200.
2. Upper Crust Bakery Recalls Bread Over Glass Contamination
A bread recall issued by Upper Crust Bakery LP is raising concerns over potential glass contamination. The Maryland-based company has recalled certain packages of its Ancient Grains Hoagie Rolls, Multigrain Sourdough Bread, and Whole Grain Multigrain Bread. The bread, which may contain glass fragments on top of the loaves, was sold in retail stores in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an alert regarding the risk of injury from ingesting glass fragments, urging consumers to immediately discard or return the affected products. No injuries have been reported so far, but the company is taking swift action to ensure public safety.
3. Sausage Products Recalled for Excessive Sodium Nitrate Levels
In another food-related recall, nearly 19,000 pounds of ready-to-eat sausage and sliced meat products have been recalled due to excessive sodium nitrate levels, which could lead to serious health issues. The affected products, produced by Smith Packing LLC, include various sausages, bolognas, and franks from brands such as As-Salaam and Honest John. The company discovered the issue after receiving consumer complaints regarding off-taste and off-color products.
Excessive sodium nitrate can cause methemoglobinemia, a condition that impairs oxygen transport in the blood and may lead to serious health complications. Although there have been no reports of adverse reactions, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is urging consumers to check their products for the establishment number “EST. 4578” or “P-4578,” printed inside the USDA mark of inspection. The affected items were sold in New York State between February 19 and April 24, 2025.
Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products should take immediate action to ensure their safety. For the SharkNinja pressure cookers, a replacement lid is available. Bread products from Upper Crust Bakery should be discarded, and any sausage or deli meats from Smith Packing LLC with excessive sodium nitrate levels should be returned or thrown away.
As these recalls highlight, it is essential for consumers to stay informed about product safety and take appropriate steps to protect themselves and their families. Further updates will be issued as more details become available.
