Napa, CA – NEWS Domestic Violence & Sexual Abuse Services has announced the election of two prominent community leaders to its board of directors: former Napa Mayor Jill Techel and Davet “Dee” Mohammed, a nurse and clinical liaison at Sacramento Rehabilitation Hospital.
Techel, who served four terms as mayor of Napa, brings a wealth of leadership experience to the organization. With 25 years as the program director of Leadership Napa Valley, Techel has built deep connections within the community and established a track record of working toward positive change. Her expertise in governance and community relations is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the organization.
“Dedicating time to an issue as critical as domestic violence and sexual abuse is an honor,” Techel said. “I look forward to working alongside the team to bring lasting change to our community.”
Alongside Techel, Mohammed’s unique background in healthcare offers a valuable perspective to the board. As a nurse and clinical liaison at Sacramento Rehabilitation Hospital, Mohammed has worked directly with patients recovering from injuries and trauma, making him well-versed in the physical and emotional complexities that often accompany domestic violence. His clinical expertise will be instrumental in addressing the health-related challenges faced by survivors and in shaping the organization’s response to their needs.
“Ensuring the well-being of individuals affected by trauma is a responsibility I take seriously,” Mohammed commented. “I’m eager to contribute to the efforts of NEWS in supporting survivors and advocating for greater resources and awareness.”
The addition of Techel and Mohammed to the board marks an exciting new chapter for NEWS Domestic Violence & Sexual Abuse Services, which is committed to providing support, education, and advocacy for those affected by domestic violence and sexual abuse. Their combined experience in leadership, community engagement, and healthcare will undoubtedly help propel the organization’s mission forward, strengthening its ability to serve those in need.
