SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A head-on collision on Saturday afternoon in Sonoma County left one driver dead and two others seriously injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 3:58 p.m. on Occidental Road, east of Mill Station Road, approximately 10 miles west of Santa Rosa. Authorities say a Honda Accord traveling eastbound veered into the westbound lane for reasons still under investigation and collided head-on with a Jeep Wrangler.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, and inquiries are being directed to the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office.

The Jeep’s driver and passenger sustained major injuries in the collision and were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment, the CHP said.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the Honda to cross into oncoming traffic. The California Highway Patrol is urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact their Santa Rosa office at (707) 806-5600.

The road was temporarily closed as emergency crews responded to the scene and investigators worked to document the circumstances surrounding the incident.
