Napa, CA — A 26-year-old San Francisco man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in California state prison after pleading no contest to charges of kidnapping, forcible oral copulation, and forcible rape, all of which are classified as strike felonies.
Efrain Jose Obando was convicted in connection with a violent crime he committed on January 27, 2024, that involved a Napa woman.
According to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, Obando abducted the victim from her workplace in Napa early that morning. After forcibly taking her into his vehicle, Obando drove the victim to a public storage facility in South San Francisco, where he attempted to sexually assault her. However, the victim was able to de-escalate the situation by convincing Obando that she needed to return to work. Obando agreed to drive the victim back to Napa, but during the journey, he stopped in Vallejo, where he sexually assaulted her again for several minutes before ultimately releasing her.
In addition to his guilty plea, Obando admitted to several special allegations, including the fact that the offenses were premeditated and involved sophisticated planning. Under a plea agreement, Obando will serve 12 years and eight months in prison and will be required to register as a sex offender for life. A 10-year protective order will also be in place, prohibiting him from having any contact with the victim or her daughter.
Furthermore, Obando must pay restitution to the victim and cover court fees.
District Attorney Allison Haley praised the victim for her courage in coming forward, acknowledging the lasting emotional toll the crime has had on her and the community. “No one should endure what this survivor went through, and I commend her bravery for coming forward.
Our community is safer because of her courage, and we will continue to stand with victims and fight for justice,” said Deputy District Attorney Kristen Orlando, who prosecuted the case. The sentence serves as a reminder of the serious consequences for such heinous acts and highlights the importance of holding offenders accountable.
The case also emphasizes the need to continue supporting survivors of violent crimes and ensuring justice is served.
