CASTAIC, Calif. — A recovery operation was suspended Sunday after a paddleboarder went missing in the lower lagoon of Castaic Lake, officials reported.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. when strong winds overturned two paddleboards, throwing two individuals into the water. A woman, who was wearing a life jacket, was safely rescued, but the man accompanying her remained unaccounted for.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department initially conducted the search but suspended efforts later in the day. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has since taken over as the lead agency in the investigation.
Authorities have stated that the missing man is presumed dead. Recovery divers are scheduled to resume their search Monday morning.
